On its premises, Fattoria San Michele a Torri makes products that are traditional for the region in that they are completely organic. Jessica, the granddaughter of the owner, and Leonardo, the director of the farm, give us a glimpse of how tradition can be brought into harmony with sustainability and modern technology.

Fattoria – organic and sustainable vineyard

A successful vision

The farm has dedicated itself to environmental agriculture since 1992. It began with the cultivation of a special type of grape for the traditional Chianti wine: the Sangiovese grape. Today, besides their main products of wine and olive oil, they also produce ham, bread, and honey. The surface area of the vineyard alone is 55 hectares.

Achieving greater craftsmanship through the use of technology

Jessica's grandfather Paolo, the owner of the farm, wants to preserve the traditional craft whilst refining it with the technology of today. Jessica and Leonardo manage the company under this guiding principle, and in doing so they rely, among other things, on STIHL products. Thanks to their top quality, the tools offer just the right support for the daily routine on the farm.

Fast care with the mistblower

Whenever the vines on the farm need targeted spraying, they use the STIHL SR 450 mistblower, as this mistblower can be used to apply fertilizer in a targeted way. The dosage can be adjusted in small increments and switched on or off at any time. Only organic products are used for fertilisation.

On the vast grounds of the farm, there's always field works to do. A seedling has to be planted or a fence has to be put up again. A device such as the STIHL BT 131 earth auger is a huge help for these types of jobs. As Leonardo says: "It speeds up the work."

Organic Chianti in Tuscany

The farm is a major attraction in the region. Due to the high level of interest in production, they now offer various tours and events – the wine samplings are of course especially popular, as well as tastings of other traditional products made on the farm.
