Evergreen, up to 600 cm long, strap-shaped pinnate leaves. Each leaf with up to 200 pairs of pointed leaflets. Leaves are green or slightly grey in colour. Up to 200 leaves in the crown. Ascending, upright. Only the lower leaves hang down.

Flowering period: II to VI. Luminous yellow inflorescence, 10 to 100 cm in size.

Inedible, ovate yellow dates approx. 3 cm in size. Ripen in September. Coffee substitute is made from the stones.
